Former Shortland Street star Adam Rickitt has returned to the stage in an effort to relaunch his pop “career”, playing London’s GAY, ahead of Manchester Pride next week.
Following his rise to fame in Coronation Street, Adam attempted to become a popstar in 1999 with the gay-as-fuck I Breathe Again, complete with nakedness throughout the video. While I Breathe Again was a top 5 hit in the UK, his two follow up singles Everything My Heart Desires and Best Thing did poorly and his album missed the top 40 resulting in his record label dumping him. However he maintained a large fan base in the gay community — perhaps more due to his body than his music…
He returned to Coronation Street again in 2003, and was part of the Street‘s first storyline involving a gay kiss, but was later sacked with a whole load of characters in an attempt to revamp the series.
Following an attempt to become a Tory politician in Britain he headed to New Zealand where he landed the role of Kieren Mitchell in Shortland Street for three years.
Whether Adam can recapture the $ucce$$ of his early career in music remains to be seen, but we don’t think playing a couple of gay bars is gonna quite cut it — especially with a lack of visible bulge!
