Jevan: ‘No gay marriages!’

Gay Wellington Council wannabe, Jevan Goulter, has announced that he does not support gay marriage or gay rights.

The 21-year-old, who is running for Lambton Ward later this year, says he agrees with Australia’s new Prime Minister, Julia Gillard, in not supporting equal marriage rights for gays.

“It confuses me how gay people would want to take part in a Christian ceremony anyway,” he tells Aaron and Andy.com.  “We have civil unions; is that not enough?”

Goulter doesn’t support gays rights either.  “I am a huge supporter of human rights, not gay rights.”

And he has a shocking alternative if gays want to take part in a legal marriage.  “If you really wanted to get married that badly then go and find a girlfriend!”

He also has a bone to pick with gay Labour MP Chris Carter. “Why does Chris think people hate him because he is gay? People simply hate him because he is Chris Carter, he does it on his own.”

Goulter says that there are plenty of other things Carter should have used his ministerial credit card for, referring to the recent scandal surrounding the MP’s spending.  “Chris Carter is a dried up old man that would have been wiser to spend the taxpayers’ money on botox as opposed to travel.”

Charming.

    • This person Jevan is obviously not aware of the different communities which populate the term ‘homosexuality’. There are Christians, Muslims who have the right to constitute what is deemed ‘united’. What a statement “I am a huge supporter of human rights, not gay rights.” Is he not aware ‘Gays’ are humans and therefore dictate what ‘rights’ allow.

Im a fan of people voicing there opinion, though when my 6 year old nephew swears at people on the street, I cover his mouth and punish him later.

  10. Jevan,

Marriage is NOT a “Christian ceremony”. Muslims get married, Buddhists get married, Hindus get married, atheists get married, and in several forward thinking countries, so can gay couples.

Marriage is legal recognition of a relationship, it has nothing to do with religion. You can choose to incorporate a religious element in your wedding “ceremony”, and that’s between you and your non-existent deity.

Dress them up however you want, but civil unions are not the same. Separate but equal was tried in America’s south, and in South Africa under apartheid. It didn’t work then, and it doesn’t work now.

There goes that political career down the toilet , where it belongs. There are enough reasons in this article and thread alone for gay voters to oust this silly attention seeking boy. Wellingtons gay community needs to band to together to nip this juveniles political ambitions in the bud.

Personalizing a debate, insulting sex workers in a public forum, reactive emotional responses, naive and uninformed opinions, reinforcing bias against gay civil rights, discriminatory statements, using personal tragedy for self promotion, and a nasty attitude… what an ugly human being.

Surely these are not character traits that the gay, lesbian and trans-gender community desire in a community leader. His ambitions are extremely misguided. There is absolutely no reason at all for the gay community to support him at all.

This an appalling article and an embarrassing moment in NZ’s gay civil rights.

is this Jevan for real? I have been reading trademe posts, auctions and newspaper articles with interest. I cannot believe that a normal thinking adult would spout their off the planet, outlandish, snide comments/views the way this “person”does. He appears to have no respect for anyone, yet continues to put himself out there into public formums. I do not believe that Wellington or Wanganui would benefit from having him on council or involved in any form of public office. I have no concerns that this young man is gay, to me that is not the problem. He comes across as a self absorbed, narcisstic (narcissism is the personality trait of egotism, vanity, conceit, or simple selfishness) person, who needs help. He adds threads/comments with no inkling of forethought and thinks it is funny to rubbish, insult others (his comments on gay marriage, Chris Carter, Miss Teen Wanganui). I feel for him and think he would be better to admit himself for a psych evaluation rather than run for public office. Although there are humerous moments in the above threads we are all pandering and stroking this individuals ego by talking, discussing his many recent activities. Something to think about anyway.

My blog isnt designed to be funny, i’ll leave that up to Aaron and Andy, as they’re the pros at that.

If you’d read my site you’d notice its a political blog, commenting on political happenings. I consider whats happening in Whanganui to be a political happening. It might be a pathetic website, but its not designed to get hits, or entertain. I’m fine that only 30 people a day read my blog – my target isnt the mass market. In regards to me having better things to do, furthering my education is up on my list – sorry I don’t compare to your wicked as lifestyle.

I’m currently studying second year politics, have worked on three NZ Election campaigns, as well as campaign managed a local body candidate in 2008. One would suggest if you have time to google yourself that your not working that hard on campaigning, my candidate never had time to sit on blog sites googling herself – she was out every weekend with me hitting the malls, meeting voters, conveying what she stood for. Have you been doing this in Whanganui?

In regards to me being an ugly looser, don’t really care. Never been fussed about how photogenic I am, most my mates like me for my personality – they don’t care that I dont have washboard abs, white teeth, and dress as cool as you do (*inserts sarcasim*).

I actually just stumbled across this page (because obviously I like to google my name) and found that some ugly loser in need of a paper bag of their face (you) , had a whole thing on me on their website.

Are you gay yourself? Are you Maori/Pacific Islander?
If you answer yes to both and previously said yes to equal rights for Maori/Pacific Islanders, then why not the “other side” of you and support Gay Rights? If you fall madly in love with a person of the same sex would you not like to share that with the people around you and have a wedding that is not half! Marriage is a very tight legal relationship binder that states to the world that you are in it for ever that you love this person more then life itself….?
I am not big on politics but I do understand that if you really want to be in/voted/involved than you have to do things with a bit of diplomacy.
The things you have said on here will do you no justice (If this is really him speaking).
When it comes to subjects you don’t support, don’t talk about it, dodge the questions about it. Turn yourself into a positive not bleat on about what you are not in support (negative). But I am guessing this is all to late anyway…

Gay marriage is paradoxical, of course there is nothing wrong with equal opportunity, but what opportunity does marriage bring?

One could argue that supporting gay marriage is simply conforming to heteronormative culture, in a sense gaydem loses its autonomy, if gay culture is to be preserved it must remain autonomous from hetero norms.

furthermore one could argue the church has persecuted gays for centuries, why would any autonomous gay or any minority for that matter wish to assimilate themeless with such a culture.

In my own personal opinion a civil union offers adequate legal protection and also offers an opportunity for peopel to celebrate the union in a variety of ways.

Marriage has NOTHING to do with religion. Marriage is purely a legal binding, the “ceremony” maybe religious if you choose it to be, but frankly I will marry my man on a beach or in a forest – out doors in the sun before i even bother getting hit by lightning and walk onto religious grounds!

Marriage is a binding it has no religious over rulings…
If marriage is illegal for two people of the same sex… Then they should make divorce illegal for heterosexuals.

Read prior comments as well… You believe that marriage is a christian thing – when there are all religions around the world that marry, so in basic sense anyone can marry regardless to religion, race or sexuality.
