Mr Gay WGTN is back!

Mr Gay Wellington is set to come back with a bang this Queen’s birthday weekend.

One of Wellington’s biggest dates on the rainbow calendar is set to go off on Sunday 5 June at Garden Club. Over $1000 worth of prizes is on offer for the winner this year, with the losers walking away with nothing.

Mr Gay Wellington has been running since the legendary days of Pound Nightclub back in the 90s. Garden Club owner and event promoter Greig Wilson says: “The night is shaping up to be one of the best, with a great mix of celeb and talent already on board. I am delighted with the level of interest we have already received.”

Three categories make up the competition: swimwear, eveningwear and a new talent section with contestants showing us what they can do! Take that, and add some celeb to the mix: Our MC, the well-known Steve Gray (ex-Good Morning TV host) is set to take control of the show, with you, the audience, having your say.

Tradition over the years is for the previous winner of the title to hand over their scepter at the end of the event with much fanfare and drama. However the current titleholder, Michael Gray, recently migrated to Australia and cannot make an appearance in the flesh. Wilson says: “It is unfortunate not to have Michael there on the night in person, however I believe a satellite connection is being considered to uphold the tradition.” We shall have to wait and see.

The judge panel includes Aaron and Andy, scandalmonger Jevan Goulter, plus a surprise.

The event starts off as a pageant and rolls into a full-on party with DJ Wick Mix taking control, once all the celeb and gay stage drama has finished.

Pre-drinks warm up in Terrace bar @ Garden Club from 5pm – 8pm with a 2 for 1 drink deal. Doors open in the Garden Club @8pm. Door sales only $12. Arrive early to avoid disappointment. Don’t miss out on this one!

I hesitate to say this, since I am sure it will merely boost his already over-inflated ego, but I am appalled and disgusted to find that Jevan will be in attendance – as a judge, no less. Will he serve as an example of “How NOT to Win Mr. Gay Wellington”?

I was thoroughly looking forward to attending this event (the first opportunity I have had to do so), and now refuse to expose myself to an entire evening in the same room as that pathetic excuse for a human being.

If the Wellington (nay, the New Zealand) rainbow community has any sense, it will drop Jevan like a hot potato.

I would sincerely love to get involved in this event, maybe even compete. However, I can’t see that happening with Jevan as a judge.

Drop him and I’m sure you’ll see enthusiasm and attendance skyrocket.

  6. Why anyone would want to enter this knowing the amount of shit the winner always receives is beyond me. None of Wellington’s established gays would dare enter! It will be all the newbies who don’t know any better. God help them. That said – I’ll definitely be going to watch!

My god I have not gone to the Garden Club for ages (as I am in my twilight years now I am over 30). However Jevan and Steve Gray in the same room is something I would definitely pay to see.

Especially after coming across this on youtube:-
