‘No’ to gay McD’s ad

McDonald’s USA have said they won’t be producing a pro-gay television commercial, following the success of one recently made and screened in France, because of different “cultural norms”.

The French advertisement, which features a young gay boy talking to his boyfriend on the phone and ends with the phrase ‘Come as you are’, became an internet hit after screening there.

But McDonald’s USA’s second-in-command, Don Thompson, says the advertisement concept isn’t suitable for America.

Thompson admitted that he was a Christian with his own “personal beliefs”.

“…things … may have an implication in one part of the world and may be the cultural norm in another part of the world,” he said, referring to the ad being accepted in France.

The advertisement was slammed by decrepit and homophobic Fox News host Bill O’Reilly, who attacked the concept by suggesting McDonald’s should make a similar ads for terrorists.

You are not being truthful to the story. The problem is that McDonalds USA is not willing to air the aid despite the fact that that the ad has aired in France. The problem here is with McDonald’s USA. That said, whether this ad airs in various european countriies does not excuse their horrible factory produced food.

I think the Mc Donalds spokesperson is right, its a marketing thing. Americans in the bible belt cant (wrongly in my view), handle advertising that has gay comintations, but European countries are more open minded…….its a cultural/in grained thing in american life.
