Sam is Mr Gay Wgtn

Local theatre personality Sam McLeod has taken the title of Mr Gay Wellington at a huge party at Bodega last night, organised by Club Ivy’s Greig Wilson.

There were six entrants fighting it out for the crowd and the $1,000+ worth of prizes including cash, bar tabs from both S&M’s and the soon-to-reopen Ivy, and dinner vouchers from The Cheeky Pipi. Judges were Rainbow Wellington chair Tony Simpson, celebrity gossip blogger Steve Gray, and Emperor’s Bathhouse manager and Out Wellington Inc chair Scott Dunning. The boys had to strut their stuff through evening wear, swimwear, and a “what would you solve in the world?” question.

This morning, Sam apologised on Facebook for his “amazingly graceful drunken strip at the end,” but we’re pretty sure no one was complaining about that!

  4. Eww. Mr Gay Wellington is such a joke. What has Sam done for the gay community? Apart from fulfil dreadful stereotypes about gays being camp theatre types? Ick.

  8. Amen. Met him for the first time at the event. All the guys were lovely, even the wasted one. Some of you are just so mean and full of hate it’s a mirical anyone would want to represent you and your toxic personalities.

I didn’t expect any, its news to me that he is representing a group of people. I thought Mr Gay was a fun night and an excuse to get on the booze and a way for Greig to make a little living. But it seems not….. apparently theres more to it than that.

          • He isn’t represented anyone apart from himself. He is not an “elected official or representative” but rather a contestant in a competition and was judged “best and fairest” (to use the archaic term) at the time.

What he makes of the title is up to him – but i’m sure he’ll get some good mileage out of if he chooses to will make a fair contribution over the next year.

  10. About Richard says:

His speech was dreadfully painful and so what if he has a gym body, maybe in the Wellington gay community and the gay bar it is a decent gym body but in the real world it does not compare to a lot of other gym bodies, infact look at the face, absolutely disastrous. Fuck the body and shoot the face. His boyfriend should have entered he is hotter, fuck knows what he does hanging round Richard.

    • Richard’s a nice guy and gorgeous. Don’t be so foul.

    • Richard's boyfriend says:

What a horrible, shallow person you are! Richard is the most kind, genuine, honest and loyal person you could ever meet. He is beautiful on the inside as well as the outside, which I am sure if I knew who you were, I wouldn’t be able to say the same thing about. I would love to know who you are and then judge your face. I’m sure it ain’t pretty and sure the body is not anywhere near as hot as Richards (Jealous much?). I told Richard not to degrade himself by entering this competition but he thought that he could make a difference if he won. His speech may not have been presented well, but if you took the time to listen properly, you will see that his heart was in the right place.

Grow up you shallow, immature brat and get over yourself. If you have nothing nice or constructive to say, then keep it to yourself. It is people like you that are poisonous in our friendly community.

  12. Is this really happening? says:

I love the way you’re slagging people you don’t even know off on a website behind their back AND you’re hiding your name to boot!
For those guys to have the balls (no pun intended) to go up on stage and do what they did, whether it be “helping the community” or making a total idiot of themselves (which it sounds like one of them did) Well, they deserve a lot of credit in my books.

    1. They were entrants in a competition standing up for themselves, not standing up for the community.
    2. There was obviously a range of motivations on the night from the contestants – from having fun, wanting to publicize a message, being conned into it because there wasn’t a wide range of contestants, and being broke and wanting the $500 prize money.
    3. If you don’t want the attention, don’t put yourself on stage.
    4. If you take fun competitions far too seriously, don’t get involved.

    and finally:
    5. To one particular contestant – if things didn’t turn out the way you planned, and you now want it to go away, DONT bitch about it being on facebook, grindr and to any person you talk to for weeks after then event; don’t claim the judges had it rigged; don’t harass any of the judges, even if one of them was your old boss. Quite simply, let it go.

This was a fun competition, and to all the contestants that treated it as such, as well as Andrew who entered completely to get his message across, they deserve the utmost credit. But if you are going to be some sociopath douchebag who feels victimized that on a fair basis you didn’t win, and who furthermore won’t let it go and keeps stirring the pot, then:

1). You don’t deserve and credit whatsoever because you’ve completely missed the point of the whole exercise, and

2). you deserve every bit of hate coming your way because YOU have created it. You only have in your life what you invite into your life, and if you are going to engage in petty bullshit, expect petty bullshit in return.

It doesn’t matter where the slagging is coming from, whether it be on this website, over facebook, on grindr or in person, but if you start the slagging, you can damn well handle your own drama and reap the rewards of it, instead of blaming “internet trolls” for your issues.

    • What is posting this here meant to accomplish? You clearly know the guy – why wouldn’t you just talk to him instead of venting your issues on here? This might be a bit of an ask, because it will entail you actually having to grow a backbone – but why don’t you be a man, come out from behind the alias, pick up the phone and vent your obvious frustrations to him directly?

      Just sayin’

*shrugs* I’m as entitled to my opinion as the multiple personalities plus having his boyfriend stick up for him on here for crap he’s created himself. It’s rather pathetic actually.
