Tribute to suicide victims

LegaliseLove, the newly formed group of students hoping to achieve full marriage and adoption rights for same-sex couples, are planning a tribute to victims of homophobia.

Members of the group will be stationed on Cuba Mall in Wellington this Saturday from 11am – 4pm, asking passersby to contribute to a giant mosaic of messages against homophobia.

“The day is to commemorate all victims of homophobia,” the groups said. “But particularly the nine teenagers who committed suicide in the space of a single month, September 2010, in the United States.”

LegaliseLove are aiming to build steam for their proposed march on Parliament during Spirit Day, October 20, in which they hope to force the government to provide equal marriage and adoption rights for same-sex couples.

The group are still looking for volunteers for the march, and ask people who are interested to contact them via their website, ‘like’ their Facebook page, and sign the online petition.
